Nintendo made a number of announcements in today’s Nintendo Direct presentation. First, various updates were announced for Wii U’s Miiverse and Virtual Console services such as marking user comments as containing spoilers and the digital sale of Gameboy Advance games. Next, new trailers were shown for Platinum Game’s The Wonderful 101 and Bayonetta 2. A 3D Mario platformer, a new Mario Kart, and the next Super Smash Bros are all in development for the Wii U and will have solid details revealed at this year’s E3.
Then came announcements for Wii U Party, Yoshi Yarn (pictured above) from the makers of Kirby’s Epic Yarn, and Nintendo’s next crazy crossover game Shin Megami Tensei X Fire Emblem which will combine Atlus’ various RPG’s with Nintendo’s long-running strategy franchise. Even after seeing Professor Layton team up with Phoenix Wright, Pokemon join forces with Oda Nobunaga, and Mario play monopoly with the cast of Dragon Quest, seeing Nintendo mix one of their franchises with the highly mature line that brought us the Persona series and Digital Devil Saga is still a big surprise.
Next, the focus was set on The Legend of Zelda and what to do with the series. For the new Zelda game, the development team is setting aside some of the core concepts, such as completing dungeons in a specific order and playing alone, in order to create a fresh new experience. The new game is still very early in development and it will be some time before they can make any solid announcements about it. Fortunately, Zelda fans will be able to ease the wait with an HD remake of The Legend of Zelda: Wind Waker coming to Wii U. Along with HD visuals the remake will also “tune up the overall game experience” (how is not specified) and add Wii U specific features such as Miiverse-compatibility.
Finally, they announced a new game from Xenoblade Chronicles creator, Monolith Soft. The game wasn’t given an official title but it does have a trailer that shows it to be an ARGP where you can shoot dinosaurs with a minigun and pilot a giant robot that turns into a motorcycle. Want.
