This past Wednesday, news broke that Netflix is planning to develop an English-language TV Show based on The Witcher book series by Andrzej Sapkowski. Details are scarce, but Andrzej Sapkowski has been confirmed as a creative consultant and Sean Daniel (The Mummy, The Expanse) is reportedly involved as well. The series will be co-produced by Platige Image, a Polish animation company that also worked on The Witcher video game series.
Developed by Polish studio CD Projekt Red, The Witcher has enjoyed substantial success as a video game series for years. In 2015, this success was catapulted to new heights with the release of The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt, one of the most critically-acclaimed video games of all-time. The Witcher 3 is generally considered to be one of the greatest role-playing games in history, and was celebrated for its well-developed characters and story in particular. In addition to this, there are around 8 Witcher novels for the TV Show to draw inspiration from. If you consider all of these factors, it’s hard not to be a little excited about the prospects of a Witcher TV Show.
