A new Tomb Raider movie has been in the works for a few years now, and Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, Jason Bourne, The Man From U. N. C. L. E., The Danish Girl, The Fifth Estate, etc.) is playing the part of Lara Croft. Warner Bros. released a teaser poster for the film today, and hinted that a teaser trailer is coming tomorrow, all of this via Twitter.
Much like the 2013 game, the movie will be an origin story. Lara Croft will investigate the mysterious disappearance of her father (played by Dominic West, best known as Jimmy McNulty from The Wire). Against his final wishes, she investigates his last known location: a mysterious tomb on an island that might be near the coast of Japan.
The Tomb Raider franchise was previously adapted into two films starring Angelina Jolie. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider back in 2001, and Lara Croft Tomb Raider: Cradle of Life back in 2003. Lara Croft: Tomb Raider is currently the highest grossing film that has been adapted from a video game.
The new Tomb Raider will hit theaters on March 2018. Fans will get their first taste of the film tomorrow.
