In May of 2014, GameSpy–a company that provided online multiplayer servers for a wide variety of games–shut down. This led to the end of online communities for PC games such as Sniper Elite, Saints Row 2, and the Battlefront series.
On October 1st, with no earlier warning, online PC store GOG announced that the multiplayer servers for Star Wars: Battlefront II are back up and running. Additionally, crossplay between Steam and GOG users has now been enabled. With a united PC playerbase, ultra-low prices on the GOG and Steam stores, and the rebooted Battlefront II releasing on November 17th, the classic Star Wars video game will probably see a massive resurgence in popularity faster than I can make a bad Force pun.
