Blizzcon 2017 is the gift that keeps on giving.
As one of the only game developers affluent enough to host their own convention, Blizzcon is delivering on its promises and building upon its groundbreaking franchises. For Overwatch, this means a slate of announcements were bound to arrive. Thankfully, they did, and with a fury.
Moira O’Deorain, hero #26 on Overwatch’s roster, is a brand new support character that blends damage and healing. The mad scientist character is sure to make waves with the fanbase; an addition to the limited batch of healers in the lineup was sorely needed, and Moira looks like a powerhouse. Her abilities include streams of damage and healing, a short-range teleport, and an orb that can either destroy enemies or restore allies. Her ultimate is a powerful beam that performs both healing for her teammates and damage against her opponents all at once. To check out Moira’s gameplay, the reveal video can be found below.
In addition, Blizzard has announced a cross-franchise promotion beyond expectation. Whether it’s great fan service or shameless self-promotion is open for debate, but the new map coming to Overwatch is BlizzardWorld, an amusement park with attraction themed after Blizzard franchises including Hearthstone and Starcraft. To accompany the new battleground, Doomfist, Widowmaker, Roadhog, Torbjorn, Zarya, and Orisa are all getting brand-new skins themed after a variety of the aforementioned franchises.
The two odd heroes out, Reinhardt and Mei, are receiving new skins based on their newly released cinematic animations. As always, the bundle of new content will be on the live game likely within the next few weeks free of charge, continually giving the game new life.
