On January 31st, the official Nintendo of America account made a tweet announcing a new application in development.
According to the announcement, the game is releasing within the fiscal year ending in March of 2019. At this moment, details are vague, but the project is presumed to be a mobile version of the wildly popular Mario Kart game. The timing of this project is peculiar, however, because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe has been a major console-seller for the Nintendo Switch, alongside The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey.
The game could be a welcome substitution for fans that have not purchased the Switch. Alternatively, Mario Kart Tour’s success could be cannibalized by the already semi-mobile Mario Kart 8 Deluxe. The latter is especially plausible because by March of 2019, the Switch will only be found in more homes, and therefore, more Mario Kart fans will already be satisfied.
Regardless, the project will likely make waves, considering its brand name. Stay tuned to NLGO for all your Nintendo news, including updates on the development of Mario Kart Tour.
